Everett "Tommy" Studwell

Everett V. “Tommy” Studwell, 88, of Gnadenhutten, O., formerly of Vienna, W. Va., passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Schoenbrunn Healthcare in New Philadelphia, O., following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born July 1, 1920 in Newton, Mass., he was a son of the late Dr. Victor B. and Cenary E. (Ernest) Studwell.

Everett was raised and lived most of his life in the Parkersburg and Vienna, W. Va. area. He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School before attending watchmakers’ school in Peoria, Ill. He was a self-employed watchmaker in Vienna for over fifty years, retiring at the age of eighty.

Everett was a member of Broadway Church of the Nazarene in Parkersburg. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, reading, shooting pool and spending time with his family.

On October 25, 1943, he married the former Mary Louise Weigle with whom he enjoyed over sixty-two years of marriage until her passing on August 1, 2006. They are survived by a daughter, Louise Hicks and her husband, Ken, of New Philadelphia, and were preceded in death by a son, Victor Studwell.

Everett and Mary were also blessed with four grandchildren, Leslie Studwell of Florida, Karen Studwell-Hurd and her husband, Robert, of Virginia, David Rose and his wife, Gloria, of New Mexico, and Derek Rose and his wife, Rebecca, who are currently stationed in Germany; and five great grandchildren, Jocelyn, Meredith, Kylie, Blake and David, with another expected.

Everett is survived by two sisters, Myrtle Bethos of New Hyde Park, N.Y. and Chloe Studwell of Brookfield, Conn.; and a brother- and sister-in-law, George and Eleanor Weigle of Connecticut, as well.

Services for Everett, officiated by Rev. Steven DeLong, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, in the chapel at Evergreen North Cemetery in Parkersburg, W. Va. where interment will follow beside his beloved wife.

Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Alzheimer’s Association, in lieu of flowers.
