Ethel Mae “Tuty” King, 95, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at Hennis Care Centre in Dover, surrounded by her family. She was born in the family home on December 20, 1928 to the late Michael and Lola (Maynard) Lehigh in Dennison. Tuty was graduated from Dennison High School in 1947, and in June of that year, she married William E. “Bud” King at the former St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Dennison. Together, they raised three children.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Linda (Gary) Hanna of Dover and Carolyn King of Strasburg; grandchildren, Heidi (Bill) Martineau of New Philadelphia, Tiffany (Gordon) Jones of Beaufort, SC, Susan Hanna of Dennison, Laura Hanna of Dover, Melissa (Scott) Beagle of Jewett, Brian (Genny) Hanna of Akron, Scott King of Dennison, David Hanna of Kauai, HI, Jason (Amanda) Hanna of Centerville, and Doris King of Uhrichsville; many great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A lifelong resident of Dennison, Tuty was an Election Board member for her precinct for many years and a Dennison Elementary PTA President in the 50’s. She was a proud employee of Twin City Hospital (now Trinity Twin City Hospital) for forty-six years, beginning her career in Housekeeping, moving on to Nurse’s Aide on the Maternity Ward, and retiring as Supply Clerk. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, and reading hundreds of books from the Dennison Public Library. She loved watching the Little League children playing baseball from her back deck, traveling to Gatlinburg, Tennessee when the dogwood trees were in bloom, and playing cards with her girlfriends.
Tuty was preceded in death by her husband, “Bud”; son and daughter-in-law, Edward Lee and Vickie (Casebeer) King; and grandson, Edward Lee King, II. The last of her generation, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Robert (Mary Lou), James (Donna), Lyle (Emma), and Sam (Maxine) Lehigh; sisters, Lula Campbell, Eulalia “Dude” Bland, and Delia Leach; and two infant brothers.
Family and friends are invited to call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Pastor Larry Malterer will officiate the funeral service at noon on Friday at the funeral home. According to her wishes, Tuty will be cremated prior to interment in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery beside her husband on a future date.
