Esther Martinelli

May 27, 1925 — February 12, 2012

Esther Martinelli, 86, a lifelong resident of Dennison, Ohio, passed away at her home on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 after a period of declining health. Born in Tuscarawas County’s Union Twp. near Dennison on May 27, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Maria (Voltattorni) Orino.

On June 26, 1954, Esther married William Paul Martinelli with whom she enjoyed nearly twenty-seven years of marriage until his passing on Sept. 24, 1981. They are survived by four children, William L. Martinelli, Joseph Martinelli and his wife, Nancy, Mary Taralla and her husband, Joe, and Jacqueline Matlick and her husband, Jeff, all of Dennison; seven grandchildren, Rick Martinelli and his wife, Lisa, Tara Supers and her husband, Mike, Jason Martinelli, Joshua Clark, Emily Clark, Maria Gilland and Brandon Matlick; three step-grandchildren, Chancey, Joseph and Damien Taralla; five great-grandchildren, Emily, Ricky, Rachael, Marisa and Broden; a number of nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Mary Brown. The last of her family’s generation, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Orino and Dora Gatchell, and a brother, Louis Orino, as well as an infant grandson, Mark A. Clark, Jr.

Esther attended Dennison High School in her youth and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and its Altar Society throughout her life. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved baking and cooking for her family. She also worked for several different businesses over the years, including Goodyear Aircraft, the Scio Pottery and Memorial Grass.

Services for Esther, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 10am on Wednesday, Feb. 15, in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. In keeping with her family’s wishes, no public visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Church’s Capital Improvement Fund.
