Ernest Ellis Ross, 97, of Danville, Ohio, formerly of Dennison, Ohio, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at his home after a period of declining health. Born April 6, 1914 in Westchester, Ohio, he was a son of the late Ellis and Eva M. (Shipman) Ross.
Ernie was a Dennison area farmer and mechanic for many years, having retired in 1976. He was a longtime member of Park Christian Church in Dennison, a member of the Freeport Masonic Lodge #415 for over sixty-five years, a member of the Scottish Rite of Valley of Canton, and a life member of the Uhrichsville American Legion and the National Rifle Association.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marybelle (Cummings) Ross who died in 1968; his second wife, the former Ila Morrison who died in 1997; a brother, Eugene Ross; and three sisters, Lucille Phillips, Mabel Zimmerly, and Pauline Ross. His surviving family includes a son, Ernest E. Ross, II and his wife, Jill, of Danville with whom he had resided; a daughter, Betsy Ross Paster and her husband, Leslie, of Hilliard, Ohio; three grandchildren, Trent Ross, Holly Ross, and Mary Paster and her husband, Sean; four great grandchildren, Joshua, Brittany, Caleb, and Trey Ross; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services for Ernie, officiated by his grandson, Trent Ross, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow with a military committal service in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, east of Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
