Ernest R Riley

June 12, 1939 — May 21, 2018

Ernest Ray Riley, 78, of Uhrichsville, passed away at his home on Monday, May 21, 2018, while surrounded by his loving family. Born June 12, 1939 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Charles Elmer and Leta Grace (Jackson) Riley. He was employed for 27 years at the former Alsco Anaconda in Gnadenhutten.

Ernie was a lifelong Twin City resident with the exception of several years in the late 50s when he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany where he met the love of his life, Lore (Gerstenmeyer) Riley. On July 23, 1963, Ernie and Lore began their nearly 50 year marriage. She preceded him in death on January 27, 2013. They are survived by four children, Ernest C. M. (Chong) Riley, Sharen (Robert) Laporte, Katherine (Greg) Hamilton and Christine (Robert) Haney; grandchildren, Christopher and Ernest Riley, Michelle (Stephanie) and Miranda McCue, Evan and Nicole Cross, Andrew Clum and Andrea (Tyler) Hamilton-Long; and great-grandchildren, Kailaya Heath, Lheanna Riley and Isaac Long. Ernie is also survived by his siblings, Gerald L. (Carolyn) Riley, John L. (Alice) Riley and Shelva (Don) Mitchell, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Charles J. and Glenn E. Riley, and sister, Artie Caldwell.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation. A graveside service for Ernie and Lore, officiated by Pastor David Koch, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 25, in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover, where they will be laid to rest together. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
