Erma Vonne Walton

Erma V. Walton, 91, of New Philadelphia, Ohio passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Amberwood Manor in New Philadelphia, following a brief period of declining health. Erma was born on January 14, 1935 in Hobart, Oklahoma, a daughter of the late John Marion and Susie Emma (née Reynolds) Chandler. She was a resident of Tuscarawas County for most of her life, was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School, and attended Kent State University’s Tuscarawas Campus.

In 1996, she retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation and had also worked for the Board of Elections, as well as 7 years at the road side rest for the Tuscarawas County Convention Center. An avid camper for years, she especially loved Myrtle Beach. She also enjoyed playing bingo and many activities with her Red Hat friends. Above all else, she truly loved and enjoyed her family and the many joys they brought her in her lifetime.

Erma served on the board of the former MRDD for 4 years, was a member of the Tuscarawas Democratic Party where she served as an active Vice-Chairman in 1984 and 1985, and was a past president of the Claymont Democratic Women’s Club. She was also a member of the New Philadelphia VFW.

In addition to her parents, Erma was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Owens; sons, Ronnie Walton and Rick Walton; brothers, Earl and Wayne Chandler; and sisters, Joey Childers and Brenda Bailey. She is survived by her grandchildren, Laura (Mark) Burke, Tina Marie Rowin, Travis (Jen) Armstrong, Todd Walton, Joey Walton, T.J. Walton, Jessica Walton, and Ricky Walton, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Chantz (Sami), Hanna and Gavin Burke and Noah and Ian Walton; sisters, Laverne (Donald) Schickedanz and Kathy (Jimmy) Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Erma’s wishes, she has been interred in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery without a public visitation or service. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association, in lieu of flowers.
