Erma I. Shultz

September 20, 1920 — January 14, 2011

Erma I. Shultz, 90, of Dover, O., formerly a longtime resident of Bowerston, O., passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Born September 20, 1920 in Hopedale, O., she was a daughter of the late John and Mary M. (Valdinger) Nagy.

After her 1938 graduation from Southwestern High School in Detroit, Erma worked for Ford Motor Co. for a number of years. Her true life’s work though was caring for her family whom she loved dearly. She was married to Herman E. Shultz on August 14, 1948 and enjoyed over sixty-one years of marriage with him until his passing on December 12, 2009. They are survived by two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Deana M.) Coine of State College, Pa. and Mrs. William Jay (Vickie Jean) Chambers of Columbus; a son, Harold Shultz and his wife, Jean Ann, of Great Falls, Mont.; ten grandchildren; and a number of great grandchildren. Erma is also survived by her brother- and sister-in-law, Kenneth L. and Freeda Shultz of Canton, and many nieces and nephews.

The last of her family’s generation, Erma was preceded in death by six brothers, John, Vince, Al, Steve, Ernie, and Eugene (her twin) Nagy, and a sister, Mary McEachan, in addition to her parents and husband.

Erma lived in Bowerston for much of her life with the exception of twenty years in Florida, and the past several years when she has lived in Dover. She was a longtime member of Bowerston United Methodist Church, a fifty-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, having been affiliated with the Orange Lodge, and a member of the former Bowerston American Legion Post #581 Auxiliary.

Services for Erma, officiated by Rev. Chester Rupert and Pastor Tim Womack, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Bowerston’s Longview Cemetery beside her beloved husband. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Those wishing to honor Erma’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Alzheimer’s Association.
