Erma Millhorn

September 24, 1929 — June 24, 2011

Erma L. Millhorn, 81, of Bowerston, Ohio, was called home to Heaven on Friday, June 24, 2011 from Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio, after a brief illness. Born September 24, 1929 in Carroll Co., Ohio, near Bowerston, she was a daughter of the late Charles Edward and Ola May (Leggett) Crawford.

On December 21, 1947, Erma married Doyle C. Millhorn with whom she enjoyed over fifty years of marriage until his passing on June 9, 1998. They were blessed with four children, Bruce Millhorn of Brunswick, O., Sherry Howell who preceded her in death and Sherry’s husband, Richard, of Canal Fulton, Carol Rambaud and her husband, Dennis, of Sherrodsville, and Barb Chew and her husband, Daniel, of Bowerston; eleven grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren. Erma is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Crawford of Canal Fulton and Jean Crawford of Michigan, and many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by a host of dear friends and neighbors, as well. In addition to her parents, husband, and daughter, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Sharon Millhorn; a sister, Florence May Crawford; and two brothers, Frank and Willard Crawford.

A lifelong resident of Bowerston, Erma was a graduate of Bowerston High School in the class of 1947, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bowerston, and a longtime member of the Bowerston Women’s Club and the Bowerston 500 Card Club. Erma was a tireless worker who not only cared for her family and home, but also worked for thirty-three years at the former Scio Pottery, was the owner and proprietor of Fox’s Pizza in Bowerston for thirteen years, and was an Avon Representative for over forty years during which time she was honored with membership in its President’s Club for top sales representatives and with The Spirit of Avon Award, recognizing her integrity and dedication. Even in retirement, she continued to work, having been a clerk at the convenience store at the edge of town for a number of years. She also served her community as a councilwoman for the Village of Bowerston for twelve years.

Services for Erma, officiated by Pastor Tom Dawson and Pastor Milo Baker, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Bowerston’s Longview Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Those wishing to honor Erma’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Trinity United Methodist Church in Bowerston.
