Emma Viola Wilson

Emma Viola Wilson, 93, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville, after a period of declining health.

Born December 10, 1916 in Canton, O., she was a daughter of the late Christian C. and Mamie (Nicholson) Long.

A resident of the Feed Spring area for most of her life, Emma was a longtime member and past president of the Feed Spring School Reunion Committee. She was also a member of Uhrichsville 1st Christian Church and the Twin City Senior Citizens. Emma was a poll worker for the Harrison County Election Board for many years, serving the Tappan and Brownsville area and, in her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and bingo.

On January 11, 1935, Emma married Howard Alexander Wilson with whom she enjoyed over sixty years of marriage until his passing on October 19, 1995. They are survived by two sons, John H. Wilson of Myaka, Fla. and William R. Wilson and his wife, Carol, of Sarasota, Fla.; three grandchildren, Lori Lee Laudon and her husband, David, of California, Darren K. Wilson and his wife, Bronwyn, of Portland, Ore., and Rick Wilson of California; and four great granddaughters, Julie, Claire, Hannah , and Emily.

Emma is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, including Donna and Darrell Pancher, Wanda and Don Groff, Mamie and Don Lamb, Shawnee and Ron Dunlap, Nancy and Rich Kerns, Bonnie and Allen Cohen, Todd and Brenda Pancher, Jim and Thelma Long, and Bob and Lil Wilson; a sister-in-law, Pauline Burnett of Florida; numerous great nieces and great nephews; and many more children who call her “Great Grandma” and “Auntie Em”.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Gatchell and Naomi Blackwell; two brothers, James David Long and Russell H. Long; a daughter-in-law, Wendy Wilson; a niece, Viola Boone; and a nephew, Russell Jr. Blackwell.

Services for Emma, officiated by Rev. Bob James, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 4, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Uhrichsville 1st Christian Church.
