Emma M. Lehigh

Emma M. Lehigh, 82, of Tuscarawas, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Trinity Twin City Hospital in Dennison, Ohio after a brief illness. Born April 30, 1929 near Tuscarawas, she was a daughter of the late Harry Forrest and Ruth Irene (Simmons) Thompson.

On May 11, 1947, Emma married Lyle E. Lehigh who preceded her in death on September 1, 1983. They are survived by two sons, Brent Lehigh and his wife, Sara, of Wainwright and Bryan Lehigh and his wife, Jennifer, of Gnadenhutten; six grandchildren, Jamie Lehigh and his wife, Michele, Lori Hartrick and her husband, Jamie, Tammy Harrison and her husband, Ted, and Kyle, Mitchell and Hannah Lehigh; and nine great grandchildren, Alec, Karson and Kolby Hartrick, Braeden, Blake and Brooklyn Lehigh, and Kali, Kassi and Kylee Harrison. Emma is also survived by a brother, Harry Robert Thompson and his wife, Barbara, of Dover; two sisters, Beth Greer and her husband, William, of Uhrichsville and Peggy Vesco and her husband, Raymond, of Tuscarawas; a brother-in-law, Arthur J. “Arco” DiDonato of Dennison; many nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Dean Rausch of Tuscarawas. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Thomas Russell, and a sister, Lois DiDonato.

Emma lived in the Tuscarawas area throughout her life and was a graduate of Tuscarawas-Warwick High School in the class of 1946. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, as well as the RSVP Director for Harcatus for many years. She had also worked for Lanza Jewelers in Dover for a time and enjoyed working on senior portraits at Harmon Studio in Dover for a number of years.

Services for Emma, officiated by Pastor Florence McNutt, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in St. James Lutheran Cemetery at Tuscarawas. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Those wishing to honor Emma’s memory are encouraged to make a contribution to the charity of their choice.
