Elmer "Skip" Weir Mcclave, Jr.

Elmer Weir “Skip” McClave, Jr., 89, of Uhrichsville, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, February 10, 2018. Born February 26, 1928 in Uhrichsville, he was a son of the late Elmer Weir and Helen Irene (Dickson) McClave.

Skip was a lifelong resident of Uhrichsville and a graduate of Uhrichsville High School before earning his Bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University. After his college graduation, he returned to Uhrichsville to work in the family business, Superior Clay Corp., where he served as the president for many years. His first love was his family, but his second love was the “clay business”. One of his joys was spending time talking with the people who worked at Superior. He respected their work and valued their friendship.

Skip was a lifelong member of Uhrichsville First Presbyterian Church where he was formerly very active, serving in various offices in the church. He was a former member of Claymont School Board and had served as a Director on the board of the former United Bank, now Chase. He was an avid golfer for most of his life.

In March of 1949, he married the former Mary Lee Biddle whom he had met in high school. She survives him along with their children, Ann (Terry) Miller, Cathy (Al) Trustdorf and Todd (Lyn) McClave; grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Ham, Tyler (Eva) McClave, Leslie (fiancé, Brian Hoover) Harding, Rich (Katie) Trustdorf and Erin (Marlin) Miller; and 8 great-grandchildren. Skip is also survived by a sister, Ann Brown; sister-in-law, Hetty McClave; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friend and caregiver, Carol Ong. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Ballantine; brother, James W. “Bud” McClave; great-grandson, William Robert Stull; and brothers-in-law, Robert H. Brown and Hugh R. Ballantine.

Services, officiated by Rev. Mark Unrue, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, in Uhrichsville First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. He will be interred in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Uhrichsville First Presbyterian Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
