Elmer L. Rine, 83, of Port Washington, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2015, at Riverside Manor in Newcomerstown. Born May 26, 1932 in East Sparta, Ohio, he was a son of the late Albert Rine and Edith Carlin.
On June 29, 1984, Elmer married the former Dorothy J. Stevens with whom he has enjoyed 31 years of marriage. He is also survived by children, Gail (Mike) Davis, Charlene (Mike Hamilton) Abel, Mark Abel, Lisa (Paul) Murray, Lejene Maurer and Lorene Hansen; grandchildren, Sarah Davis, Ashley Cox, Brittany Yekel, Paul Murray, Caleb Abel, Amanda Murphy, Dena Murray, Nicholas Maurer, Monica Maurer, Jonathan Hansen, and Jeremy Hansen; and great-grandchildren, Maddison Ondash, Breelynn Cox, Jaceden Cox, Isabella Hansen, and Brooklynn Murphy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several siblings and two great-grandchildren.
In 1993, Elmer retired from his long career in the area’s steel industry. He had worked for Republic Steel and LTV Steel for a total of 42 years. In his retirement, he spent as much time out in nature as he could, even enjoying the time that he spent shoveling snow in the winter.
Services for Elmer, officiated by Pastor Jim Reed, will be held at noon on Thursday, October 29, 2015 in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Visitation will be for an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
