Ellen Marie Mastellarini

Ellen Marie Mastellarini, 70, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, formerly of Dennison, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Mt. Carmel East in Columbus, Ohio, following a brief illness. Born December 19, 1948 in Dennison, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Caesar and Sandrina (Censoni) Mastellarini. In addition to her parents, in 2011 she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Steve Schakett, whom she had married in 1986.

Ellen grew up in Dennison where she was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and a 1966 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. She earned her nursing degree from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in 1969 and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration and psychology from St. Joseph’s College in 2006. Ellen was a dedicated nurse who had worked for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center East Hospital for 15 years, having previously worked for Mt. Carmel East since 1972.

A devoted woman of faith, she attended several Catholic churches in Columbus. She will be lovingly remembered not only for her compassionate and caring nature in her profession, but also for her charitable spirit, having donated generously to countless charities over the years. She was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Ellen will be deeply missed by her surviving family which includes her sister, Silvia (husband, Richard) Ray; niece, Sonia (husband, Joshua) Walker with whom she was especially close; nephew, Nicholas (companion, Hailey) Ray; and many extended family members, including her dear cousins, Linda (Eric Botdorf) Chadwick, David Nazionale and Chris Chadwick. She also leaves behind her special friends, Shirley Shannon and Jeannette Yanack, as well as a host of friends and colleagues in the nursing community.

Father Tom Gardner will celebrate the funeral Mass on Wednesday, December 11, at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow beside her parents in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Visitation will begin with a Christian Wake Service at 4:00 p.m. and continue until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. In keeping with Ellen’s love for charitable giving, donations honoring her memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice, in lieu of flowers.
