Elaine Ruth Smith

Elaine Ruth Smith, 98, of Dennison, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018, at Canterbury Villa in Alliance, Ohio. Born October 12, 1919 in Cecil, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth Evelyn (Morris) Young.

A Twin City resident for much of her life, Elaine was a 1939 graduate of Uhrichsville High School and a longtime member of Park Christian Church in Dennison where she was active in Phoebe’s Friends. She was a devoted wife and was always happy to help others. She loved her dogs, especially Beagles, many of whom shared her life over the years.

On August 9, 1941, she married John W. “Jack” Smith with whom she enjoyed over 62 years of marriage until his passing on October 21, 2003. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William “Scotchy” Young; an infant sister, Mildred Young; and a dear niece, Sally Young. She is survived by her nephew, William E. Young, and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Services, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Park Christian Church.
