Eileen Mathias, 92, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Aultman Hospital in Canton after suffering a stroke with severe brain hemorrhaging. Born July 25, 1921 in Harrison County’s Franklin Township near Tippecanoe, she was a daughter of the late Walter Alvin and Rachel “Emma” (Copeland) Cecil.
A lifelong resident of the area, Eileen attended Uhrichsville High School and was a longtime member of Park Christian Church in Dennison. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who had also worked at FabOhio for many years until her retirement. She looked forward to attending the FabOhio Retirees lunches each month for many years. She was a member of the Ohio Chapter of the National Society of Andersonville, and an active volunteer with the Twin City Christian Service Center Food Pantry and at Park Christian Church where she was always happy to lend a helping hand. She especially enjoyed caring for her home and yard and was looking forward to being able to mow her lawn as spring arrives.
On August 20, 1938, Eileen married Ralph R. Mathias with whom she enjoyed over 28 years of marriage until his passing on December 1, 1967. They are survived by a son, Larry W. Mathias of Midvale; a daughter, Beverly A. Deems of Uhrichsville; grandchildren, Carole Parrish, Diane Mehok, Rebecca (Roy) Caldwell and Brian (Lisa) Deems; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Rachel, April, Seth, Ryan, Samantha, Emily, Cody and Casey; and great-great-grandchildren, Anthony, Maci, Aaron, Aiden, Madeliene, Landon, Skylar and Kendall, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Lloyd Cecil; a sister, Mabel Huff; and a grandson, Greg Deems.
Services for Eileen, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Deersville’s Patterson Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Park Christian Church.
