Edward Franklin Haney, Sr.

Edward Franklin Haney, Sr., 82, of New Philadelphia, O., passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2010 at Union Hospital in Dover, O. after a period of declining health.

Born June 15, 1928 in Hazard, Ky., he was a son of the late Robert Lee Haney, Sr. and Goldie Ellen (Wills) Haney.

Ed spent his entire life in the Tuscarawas Valley and was a member of New Philadelphia Assembly of God for many years. He retired from Larson Clay in Gnadenhutten, having also worked for Alsco in Gnadenhutten and, most recently, for Dutch Valley Industries in Uhrichsville. He was a member of the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens and enjoyed going to the Senior Center where he loved spending time with his friends and playing cards.

On April 17, 1949, Ed married Margaret Frances (Garbrandt) Haney with whom he enjoyed over fifty-two years of marriage until her passing on December 17, 2001. They are survived by four sons, Robert Lee Haney and his wife, Jean, of Wainwright, James Allen Haney and his fiancee, Jo Ellen Billetter, of Gnadenhutten, Randy Lee Haney and his wife, Charlotte of New Philadelphia, and John Ray Haney and his wife, Laurie, of Wainwright; fifteen grandchildren; and fifty-three great grandchildren.

He is also survived by a brother, Robert L. “Junior” Haney, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of New Philadelphia; two sisters, Christine Colvin and her husband, Thomas, of Dover and Mary Ann Sterms of Holloway; a sister-in-law, Linda Haney; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Edward F. Haney, Jr.; a granddaughter; four great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Gatten; a sister and brother-in-law, Lula Jane and Frank Slocum; two brothers, Joseph C. and Bobby Ray Haney; and a brother-in-law, Larry Sterms.

Services for Ed, officiated by Pastor Larry Fletcher, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside his beloved wife in West Union Cemetery at Gilmore, O.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Those wishing to honor Ed’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens Center and Community Hospice to whom his family is grateful for the excellent care provided to Ed during his final days.
