Edward E. Griffin, Sr., 90, a lifelong Uhrichsville resident, passed away at Community Hospice in New Philadelphia on Saturday, September 10, 2016, after a lengthy illness. Born June 12, 1926 in Uhrichsville, he was a son of the late Clarence Conway Griffin and Harriet (McMasters) Griffin.
After his graduation from Uhrichsville High School in 1945, Ed proudly served his country as an infantryman in the U.S. Army at the close of World War II. Upon returning home, he began his 41 year career in the local railroad industry. He was a longtime member of Uhrichsville First Christian Church.
On January 27, 1949, he married the former Shirley L. Brindley who survives him along with their children, Eddie (Bonnie) Griffin, Jr. and Debra Jean Griffin; grandchildren, Jason, Christie and Amy Griffin; and great-grandchildren, Chase Griffin, and Hannah, Evan and Bella Brooks. Ed is also survived by his siblings, Jack L. Griffin and Lois Jean (Gene) Weaver; brother- and sisters-in-law, Redell “Butch” (Penny) Brindley, Peggy McPeck, and Rita Brindley; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of dear friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Loretta Griffin; brothers-in-law, Dick and Jack Brindley and Bill McPeck; and a special aunt, Ada Griffin.
According to Ed’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation or service. He will be interred in Deersville-Patterson Union Cemetery in Deersville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Uhrichsville First Christian Church and Community Hospice. Ed’s family wish to extend their deepest gratitude to the many nurses and aides at Community Hospice who provided such excellent care to him during his final illness.
