Edith Marie “Edie” Mitchitell, 89, formerly of 640 N. 1st St., Dennison, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville after a period of declining health. Born January 14, 1922 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Splendora (Tavorini) Romano.
A 1940 graduate of Dennison High School, Edie made Dennison her home throughout her life. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and its Altar Society, and for many years she was a faithful volunteer at the Twin City Hospital Coffee Bar. Edie enjoyed walking, playing volleyball at the senior center, and playing cards with friends, being one of the original members of “The Wacky Card Club”. She will be dearly remembered for her pizzelles and homemade spaghetti dinners which she lovingly prepared for her family and friends. In the early years of her marriage, she worked as a riveter at Goodyear. Later, she was employed by Twin City Pharmacy, Conley’s and Fisher Big Wheel for a number of years, in addition to being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and homemaker.
On January 14, 1948, Edie married Louis A. “Flu” Mitchitell with whom she enjoyed over thirty-seven years of marriage until his passing on June 20, 1975. They are survived by a son, Mark Mitchitell of Dennison; two daughters, Marlene Ridgway and her husband, Rick, of Dennison and Melody and Tom Madigan of North Forth Myers, Florida; five grandchildren, Melissa Michael, Michael Ridgway and his wife, Renee, Melanie Shaw and her husband, Tyler, McKenzie Halvick, and Monica Halvick; and four great grandsons, Gage Michael, Gavin Michael, Mason Ridgway, and Mareck Ridgway, with another great grandchild expected. Edie is also survived by a sister, Donna Ross of Beacon Pointe, many nieces and nephews, and numerous dear friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret DiGuiliano and Lucy Palandrani, as well as her parents and husband.
Services for Edie, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, in Immaculate Conception Church at Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, during which time a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery Fund, 206 N. 1st St., Dennison, OH 44621 and Crossroads Hospice of Northeast Ohio, 3743 Boettler Oaks Dr., Suite E, Uniontown/Green, OH 44685. Edie’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to her roommate, Doris Sadolsky; her dear neighbors, Betty Maculaitis for her weekly visits and Ida Davis for her many hours of special care; and the staff of Beacon Pointe for all their exceptional care and support. And, as Edie would say, “You better believe it.”
