Edith T. Gardina-Marigoni

Edith Teresa Gardina-Marigoni, 91, of Dennison, O., passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover, O., following a lengthy illness.

Born October 5, 1917 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Flaviano and Thomasina (Martinelli) Ruffini. Edith was a lifelong resident of Dennison who was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in the class of 1936 and a member of Immaculate Conception Church and its Altar Society.

On October 20, 1937, Edith married Santo Gardina with whom she enjoyed nearly forty years of marriage until his passing on April 8, 1976. They are survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bert (Rosemary) Zorzi of Dennison and Mrs. Jerry (Patricia) Reed of Uhrichsville; a son, Jim M. Gardina and his wife, Susan, of Lancaster, Pa.; six grandchildren, Michele Kastor-Nahrstedt, Teresa Kastor-Patterson, John A. Kastor, Debra Reed-Anastasiadis, Rachel Gardina-Mayfield and James M. Gardina, Jr.; and fourteen great grandchildren, Kristen, Julia, John, Benjamin, Samantha, Molly, Abby, Jack, Athena, Stevie, Halie, Isabel, Kieran and Mia.

Edith is also survived by a sister, Martha Valentine, of Dennison and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and first husband, Edith was preceded in death by her second husband, Henry V. Marigoni to whom she was married on May 16, 1992. He died on January 23, 2000. Edith was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Powszok; a brother, Dominic Ruffini; and two grandsons, Ryan Gardina and Jeffrey A. Reed, as well.

Edith worked in her family’s businesses, Gardina’s Package Store, Gardina’s Café and Gardina’s Restaurant, for many years, in addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.

Services, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, at Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison.

Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, during which time a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Those wishing to honor Edith’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Immaculate Conception Church and Immaculate Conception Church’s Choir.
