Earl Delano Greenwood, 86, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2020, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, after a period of declining health. Born September 22, 1933 in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Alva Edgar Greenwood, Sr. and Chestina Elizabeth (Lawver) Greenwood. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Delores (McBeth) Greenwood; son, Russell A. Greenwood; and brothers, Alva E. Jr., Frank B., Jackie Lee and Dale Richard Greenwood.

Earl’s surviving family includes his children, Jeffrey E. (companion, Tamara) Greenwood with whom he had resided, Vickie Ann (Tim) Watson, Sandra Kaye Greenwood, David E. (Julie) Greenwood and Amy Joann Greenwood; 5 stepchildren; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor Malterer, Mary Lou Shaw, Melva Jane (Austin) Beckley, Winifred Gibbens and Linda Kay Froman; brothers, Donald E. (Shirley) Greenwood, Larry A. (Margie) Greenwood and Lewis G. “Butch” Greenwood; numerous nieces and nephews; and his former spouse, Joyce Chaney.

A lifelong area resident, Earl proudly served his country in the U. S. Army after high school. He then worked for a number of local businesses including a claypipe manufacturer and Miracle Adhesive. He also served the public as a Dennison Fireman, Dennison Police Officer and Assistant Chief of Police in Dennison. He finished his career as a maintenance worker serving Tuscarawas County in the courthouse and county home for 18 years. Earl attended Dennison Church of God, was a member of the Dennison Eagles, Uhrichsville Moose, Tuscarawas V.F.W. and the former New Philadelphia AmVets, and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians.

According to Earl’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH  44663.
