Emerson Theodore “Ted” Warner, 87, of Bowerston, O., passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Sunnyslope Nursing Home in Bowerston, following a period of declining health.
Born January 9, 1922 in Dennison, O., he was a son of the late Emerson Roosevelt Warner and Lillian Pearl (Stubbins) Warner.
A lifelong resident of the area, Ted was a graduate of Bowerston High School in the class of 1942 and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bowerston where he had served as a trustee in past years. He had also been an active member of the Bowerston Volunteer Fire Department and the Bowerston Water Board.
Ted retired from Stocker Concrete where he had been a driver for over thirty years. In his spare time, he enjoyed small engine repair as a hobby, played the piano and guitar, and was an avid train enthusiast.
On June 10, 1944 he married the former Mary Eloise Heburn with whom he enjoyed over forty years of marriage until her passing on January 14, 1985. They are survived by four sons, Gary L. Warner and his wife, Joyce, of Ocala, Fla., E. Roger Warner and his wife, Linda, of Bowerston, James Douglas Warner and his wife, Sherri, of Columbia, Tenn., and Jeffrey J. Warner and his wife, Kathie, of Bowerston; a daughter, Carol Jean Dugan of Bowerston; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Ted married Myrtle Jane (Cotter) Warner on May 10, 1987 who survives him. Also surviving Ted are stepchildren, Charles Leatherman and his wife, Jennifer of Columbus, Beverly Grimes of New Philadelphia, Jeff Leatherman of Columbus, and Sherry Downs and her husband, Brenton, of Tippecanoe, and many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
A brother, Lanny Paul Warner and his wife, Ruth, and several nieces and nephews, survive as well.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Ted was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Warner; a sister, Grace Felgenhauer; two grandson, Todd Dugan and Brian Warner; a great granddaughter; and a stepdaughter, Nancy Howes.
Services for Ted, officiated by Rev. John Johnson, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Bowerston’s Tunnel Hill Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Those wishing to honor Ted’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice.
