Dorothy M. Roberts, 84, of Dennison, passed away at her home on March 5, 2013 after a period of declining health. Born November 7, 1928 in Dover, she was a daughter of the late David and Bessie (Gundy) Rennicker.
On January 26, 1948, she married Robert Dale “Bob” Roberts with whom she enjoyed sixty-four years of marriage until his passing on April 21, 2012. They are survived by their four children, Betty (William) Cavanaugh of Dennison, Ron (Leslie) Roberts of Dover, Bill (Jennifer) Roberts of Minerva, and Linda (companion, Dave Jones) Roberts of Warsaw; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren with another expected; and five great-great grandchildren. Dorothy is also survived by two sisters, Delores Himes and Dolly (Louis) Kendle of Dover, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ridenbaugh; a sister, Erma Weaver; brothers, Carl, Luther, Forrest “Bunt”, Donald “Dutch”, Bill, and Pete Rennicker; and two infant siblings, Malvern and Russell Rennicker.
Dorothy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who immersed herself fully in the life of her family. When her children were young, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a 4-H Advisor, and later she was a longtime member of the Keystone Saddle Club with whom she served as the treasurer. She will be fondly remembered by many for her generosity with her time and talents, as she seemed always to be doing something to help others, especially by sharing her delicious baking and cooking. Along with her husband, she attended Newport United Methodist Church until her health prevented her. She worked for a number of years as a Nurses’ Aide at Twin City Hospital in Dennison, and later as a cook for the New Dawn Retirement Center in Dover.
Services for Dorothy, officiated by Pastor George Reichman, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Interment will be with her beloved husband in Newport Cemetery near Uhrichsville. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663, in lieu of flowers.
