Dorothy O. Meanor, 94, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Hennis Care Centre in Dover, Ohio after a lengthy illness. Born September 24, 1917 in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Kate Leona (Lightner) Jones.
A lifelong resident of the Twin City area, Dorothy attended Uhrichsville and Dennison High Schools and later furthered her education by obtaining hospital training at Michigan State University. She was an employee of Twin City Hospital for thirty-five years where she had been the Director of Housekeeping, as well as working in the Purchasing Department. Later, she went on to be the resident manager of the Jaycee Villa for over twenty years. She was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Uhrichsville, and was an avid bowler who also enjoyed painting in her spare time.
Dorothy was the loving wife of William I. Meanor, Jr. to whom she was married on December 21, 1940, enjoying nearly sixty-three years of marriage until his passing on January 27, 2003. She was also preceded in death by both her children, Bill Meanor, III and Donna Winrod; a brother, Rebert Jones; sisters, Halsie Staneart, Neva Neighbor, Junita Dunlap, Ruth Mowls, and an infant sister; and a great grandchild. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Nancy Meanor; seven grandchildren, Ronald, Jeffrey, Thomas and Joseph Winrod, Ryan Meanor, Michelle Miller, and Angela Clelland; many great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Jones and his wife, Joyce, of Lodi, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends, most especially so by her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren with whom she spent her happiest times.
Services for Dorothy, officiated by Rev. Larry Malterer and Rev. Harry Milligan, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Trinity Hospital Twin City and Grace United Methodist Church.
