Dorothy May Lupi, 90, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2012 at Altercare of Noble’s Pond in Canton, Ohio, after a lengthy illness. Born August 8, 1921 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Clarence T. and Bessie Alice (Barr) Coverdale.
Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Dennison and a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church where she sang in the choir and was active in the Altar Society for many years. She enjoyed volunteering at Bingo and will be remembered for her delicious fudge that she made each year for the parish festival. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker who truly loved caring for her family. She enjoyed and was skilled in crafts and baking, and spent many happy times with friends from her card clubs.
On November 19, 1942, she married Donald Stanley Lupi, Sr. with whom she spent over thirty years of marriage until his passing on July 13, 1973. They are survived by two sons, Donald S. Lupi, Jr. and his wife, Natalie, of New Philadelphia and Edward Allen Lupi of Marietta, O.; two daughters, Mary Ann Jasionowski and her husband, Daniel, of Canton and Virginia Kay Palmer and her husband, James, of Tampa, Fla.; twelve grandchildren, Donny Lupi, Melissa Lupi-Brown, Michael Lupi, Trevor Lupi, Ryan Lupi, David Palmer, Brian Palmer, Lindsay Jasionowski, Jacob Jasionowski, Jacqueline Jasionowski, Suzanne Jasionowski-McInerney and Jonathan Jasionowski; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Dorothy is also survived by a sister, Helen Brown of Tippecanoe, and numerous nieces and nephews, including some who were especially dear to her, Betty and Harold Romig, Dorothy and Richard Page, Bud and Sherry Best, Rose Best, Thomas and Janet Besozzi, Sister Mary Serafino, Therese and Hank Clacko, and Francis Besozzi. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John Graham and Charles “Tommy” Coverdale, and two nephews, Tom and Jimmy Best.
Services for Dorothy, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, during which time a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Immaculate Conception Church’s Capital Improvements Fund, 206 N. 1st St., Dennison, OH 44621 and Mercy Medical Center Hospice, 7568 Whipple Ave. N.W., Canton, OH 44720.
