Dorothy E. Disler-Greene

January 22, 1921 — February 19, 2019

Dorothy Ellen (Clark) Disler-Greene, age 98, was born January 22, 1921 to Edythe Ruth (Shannon) and Ira O. Clark in Akron, Ohio. She passed away on February 19, 2019 in Sandusky, Ohio. In 1942, she married Lowell A. Disler with whom she had five children. Lowell died in 1961. In September 1970, she married James L. Greene. They lived in Akron until their retirement. After Jim’s passing in 1993, Dorothy moved to New Philadelphia, Ohio.

She attended Lincoln Elementary, South High School and Actual Business College, graduating in 1940. Dorothy’s career took her to Manpower, and she finally retired from Firestone Tire. In Akron, she was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, formerly Main Street Methodist. She and Jim were members of the Deersville United Methodist Church.

Dorothy and Jim loved to travel. They purchased a travel trailer and started their journey together. This journey extended to all the United States except Hawaii, all of the Canadian Provinces and a bit of Mexico. Dorothy wrote about their travels and had a few of their stories published in Buckeye Magazine. Thanks to the generosity of her grandson, Jeff, she was able to go to Hawaii in 2018. Their biggest trip was to Alaska which they saved until after retirement. They sold their home, put their household belongings in storage and departed for an eight month excursion. They had planned to build a home near Tippecanoe, Ohio upon their return, so they headed back to Ohio in time for Christmas with family and broke ground for their home in January 1984. They were able to move in by September and finish the construction process. In 1999 Dorothy suffered a stroke. Upon recovery, she spent time living with each of her daughters, finally settling full time with Ruth, visiting the others when she was able.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Linda (Fritz) Sterling and Cathy (Brad) Shanks of North Carolina; Becky (Jack) Lynn, Ruth (George) Schaffter and Rebecca (Brian) Kline of Ohio; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Lowell Disler; second husband, James Greene; and son, Norman Disler.
