Dorothy Ann "Dottie" Skidmore

Dorothy Ann “Dottie” (Tomich) Skidmore, 68, of Gnadenhutten, O., died Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at Park Village Assisted Living in Dover, O., following a long battle with cancer.

Dottie was born in Granite City, Ill. on December 2, 1941, a daughter of the late Sam and Katherine (Stanichkov) Tomich. In 1950, her family moved to Akron, O. where she was a graduate of John R. Buchtel High School in the class of 1959.

On December 18, 1971, Dottie was married to Jerry Skidmore with whom she enjoyed nearly thirty-four years of marriage until his passing on April 2, 2005. They made their home in Gnadenhutten for many years after briefly residing in Stillwater, O. and North Carolina. She and her husband were the owners and operators of J DOT Transport, and Dottie had also worked in the restaurant industry, as well as in supermarkets as a meat and fish packer and wrapper for many years.

Her surviving family includes a son, Derek McDaniel and his wife, Tracy, of Orville, O.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Tom (Tonia) Randle and Tamara Lake of Tampa, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Dottie is also survived by seven siblings: Mrs. Harold (Martha) Kupfer of Richland, W. Va., Mrs. Jim (Angeline) Haring of Bellville, O., Walter Tomich and his wife, Donna, of Akron, Mrs. Ken (Pauline) Stuber of Tremont, Ill., David Tomich and his wife, Millie, of Barberton, O., Mrs. Bill (Julia) Tracey of Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca., and Mrs. Chuck (Betty) Mason of North Canton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Dottie’s wishes, she has been buried beside her beloved husband in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery without a public visitation. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home for an hour prior to the service on Saturday.
