Doris E. Riley, 77, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover, Ohio after a period of declining health.

Born November 26, 1933 in Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late Harry Eugene and Alice (Shobe) Baker.

Doris was a lifelong resident of Uhrichsville, a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in the class of 1951, and a sixty-three year member of Uhrichsville First Christian Church. She was a woman of great energy and enthusiasm who impacted her community in many ways. She served on Uhrichsville City Council for a number of years, was active in the Republican Party, and served as a Notary Public for twenty-two years. She was also a founding member of the first ladies softball team in Uhrichsville, “The Mighty Mothers”, with whom she pitched and played first base, and was a member of the Tuscarawas County Women’s Slow Pitch League and the National 600 Bowling Club. Doris was also active in the Order of Eastern Star and the Twin City American Legion Auxiliary where she was a past president.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Doris had worked in the office of several area businesses including Associated Grocers and Maurer Brothers Plumbing where she had worked for nearly twenty years. She had also worked for The Ark on Rte. 250 for a time, until her retirement.

On January 2, 1955, Doris married Jack L. Riley at Uhrichsville First Christian Church with whom she enjoyed nearly fifty-six years of marriage. He survives her at their home in Uhrichsville. She is also survived by their four children, Michael A. “Mick” Riley and his wife Savien, of Byron, Ga., Charlene Crabtree and her husband, James, of Louisville, Ky., Marilyn Nibling and her husband, Jeff, of Green, O., and Jack Riley, II and his wife, Michele, of Silver Spring, Md.; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; her brother, Harry Eugene Baker, II of Winter Park, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce H. Baker, and two sisters, Lois Young and Mary Baker.

Services for Doris, officiated by Rev. Debbie Saxe, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Family and friends are invited to call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
