Doris Faye Lawver, known by most as Faye, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, formerly of Somerdale, Ohio, was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from Country Club Retirement Campus in Dover, Ohio, at the age of 88, following a period of declining health. Born June 4, 1937 in Zoar, Ohio, she was the last surviving child of the late Clem Edward and Gertrude Estella (née, Grund) Locker – having been preceded in death by her 17 siblings, Agnes, Dorothy, Alma, Eva Mae, Jean, Pauline, Shirley, Marlene, John, Clemie, Dan, Bob, Russ, Chuck, Paul, James, and her twin, Ray.
A lifelong area resident, she was a 1956 graduate of Dover High School. Later that same year, Faye married the love of her life, William J Lawver, on November 4, 1956. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her beloved Bill preceded her in death just four months before her on January 8, 2026, and their surviving family take comfort in knowing they are reunited in heaven.
Faye and Bill were blessed with two children, Karen (Joe) Rogers and Bill (Teresa) Lawver; four grandchildren, Ben Lawver, Katelyn Martinelli, Emily Ramella, and John Ruefly; and three great-grandchildren, Kambrion Ruefly, Angelita Schonbrun, and Alessandra Ramella, all of whom survive them, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to lovingly caring for her home and family, she worked for many years in the dietary departments at Union Hospital and Country Club Retirement Campus. Until her health prevented her, Faye had been an active member of First Baptist Church of New Philadelphia where she enjoyed being part of the JOY Class – a bible study group that stands for Jesus, Others, and You. She was a woman of deep and abiding faith who loved to read her Bible. Faye also enjoyed doing puzzles and attending a group for cancer survivors called “Faces of Hope”.
A private, family service is planned for a future date. She will be interred along with her late husband in New Philadelphia’s East Avenue Cemetery. Faye’s family wish to extend their deep gratitude to all of the staff at Country Club Retirement Campus and SouthernCare Hospice for the outstanding patient care and comfort care provided to her. Charitable contributions honoring Faye’s memory are encouraged to be made to First Baptist Church of New Philadelphia, 878 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663 and SouthernCare Hospice, in lieu of flowers.
