Donald R. “Hoop” Hooper, 54, of Tuscarawas, formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at University Hospital in Cleveland, from complications during surgery.
He was Born May 1, 1955 in East Liverpool, OH. He was the son of Nancy Jane (Patterson) McBeth and her husband Robert McBeth of Dennison.
Hoop was a lifelong resident of Tuscarawas County with the exception of the time while he served his country in the United States Army after attending high school. He had most recently been employed by Phoenix Stone as a heavy equipment operator, and in his younger years he enjoyed working on the oil rigs. Hoop enjoyed going to flea markets and swap meets, and was a Volkswagen enthusiast who always seemed to be tinkering with his many toys. Hoop had many fond memories of salmon fishing in Michigan with his good friend Phil. Hoop had a passion for animals and loved working with his hands.
On May 24, 1994, Hoop married Trina Jayne (Fawcett) Hindman with whom he recently celebrated fifteen years of marriage. His other surviving family includes his parents; a daughter, Mrs. Tammy (Hooper) Dearing and husband Eric of Germany; a son, Joshua Hooper of Sherrodsville; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Keith (Chantal) Gram of Gnadenhutten; a sister, Mrs. Glenn (Nancy) Burtner of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, E.J., Jason, Kyle, Kaylee and Reese; and his special “four-legged therapist”, Mimi. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Roger Dean Hindman and step-father Clyde Mace.
In keeping with Hoop’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation or service. A memorial service and celebration of his life, officiated by Pastor Florence McNutt, will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 6 pm in the Uhrichsville Foursquare Church, 1943 N. Water St., Uhrichsville, OH. A covered dish memorial dinner will be held immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Donald R. Hooper Memorial Fund to help defray the cost of his medical and final expenses at any First Federal Community Bank branch or they may be mailed to 244 W. High Ave., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
