Donald L. “Red” McQueen, 81, of Uhrichsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Union Hospital in Dover, following a lengthy illness. Born March 16, 1927, he was a son of the late Delmar L. and Emma L. (Albaugh) Sharp McQueen.
A life long resident of the Twin Cities, Red was a 1945 graduate of Dennison High School and attended Grace U.M.C. in Uhrichsville and Park Christian Church in Dennison. Following high school, Red enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served his country proudly during World War II. In 1989, Red retired from Joy Manufacturing where he had worked for more than 40 years. Red had been his union’s secretary for many years and also had been a member of Tuscarawas V.F.W. Always a hard worker, even following his retirement Red enjoyed caring for his home and working on his yard. Red most cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandson Chad.
On September 19, 1955, Red married Eunice C. (Perkins) McQueen, and she survives him of their home. Red’s other surviving family include a daughter, Lori S. and husband John Frantz of Dennison; a grandson, Chad Frantz of Dennison; and a niece, Chloe and husband Frank Stone of Canton.
In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by his twin brother, Ronald E. McQueen; a half-sister, Hilda Sharp Nupp; and half-brother Roy Sharp.
Funeral services for Red, officiated by Rev. Vince Bagley, will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 in the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Internment will follow at Freeport Greenmont Cemetery. Family and friends may call at visitation in the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, September 8, 2008.
