Donald J. Gilmore

Donald Junior Gilmore, 80, of Strasburg, formerly of Uhrichsville, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015, at Park Village in Dover. Born January 4, 1935 in Gnadenhutten, he was a son of the late Donald Randall and Mary “Mame” (Robinson) Gilmore.

Don was a 1953 graduate of Uhrichsville High School before being employed by Cambridge IGA until his retirement in 1981. A member of Peoples Community Church in Newcomerstown, he served as a minister in several local churches since 1970. He was also a member of the Buckeye Sheriffs’ Association and the United Food and Commercial Local 1059. He served as a reservist in the 717th Railroad Battalion for a number of years.

On May 30, 1958, Don married Wilma L. (Gatchell) Gilmore and enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage with her until her passing on January 8, 1998. They are survived by a son, Steven A. (Kristy) Gilmore of Strasburg, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Marlene Gilmore; sister, Mary Reichman; and brothers, Thomas K. and A. Dean Gilmore; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Gilmore; as well as his parents and wife.

Services for Don, officiated by Pastor Brock Barnhouse, will be held at 11am on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in the Peoples Community Church Cemetery in Newcomerstown. Visitation will be 5pm to 8pm on Tuesday in the funeral home.
