Donald R. Butler, Sr.

Donald Ray Butler, Sr., 78, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia, after a brief illness. Born May 18, 1935 in Bannock, Ohio, he was a son of the late Harry Butler and Louise (Toth) Butler Lenarz.

A resident of the Twin City area since the age of 15, Don was a veteran of Korean War, having proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a truckdriver for a number of area companies including Clay City, Watkins, Larson Clay and, finally, Alsco where he was also a dispatcher at the end of his career, before retiring in the mid 90s. He was a member of the Uhrichsville Elks, Dennison Eagles, Tuscarawas V.F.W., Dennison American Legion, Dennison A.I.C. and the Uhrichsville Moose where he was a past Governor and had completed his Fellowship Degree in August of 2013. He was also a former member of the F. and A. M. Most of all, Don loved to golf and enjoyed the time that he spent with his Senior Golf League at Five Waters Golf Course.

On June 16, 1956, Don married the former June E. Kadri who survives him at their home. He is also survived by their 3 children, Donald R. (Sandy) Butler, Jr. of Dennison, Connie J. (companion, Brent) Butler of Newcomerstown and Randall S. (Tammy) Butler of Dennison; 6 grandchildren, Jessica (companion, J.T.) Vickers, Abby (Matt) Anderson, Brayden (companion, Amanda) Butler, Maddy Butler, Brody Butler and Kelcey (Paul) Mason; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Bill (Susan) Butler of Dover and Ron (Gloria) Butler of Strasburg; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah J. Vickers, and a brother, Dick Butler.

In keeping with Don’s wishes a private family graveside service is planned without a public visitation. He will be interred in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663 and Mooseheart, c/o Moose Lodge #740, 418 N. Main St., Uhrichsville, OH 44683.
