Debbie Sue Pounds, 58, of Uhrichsville, passed away, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, August 15, 2016, in New Philadelphia, after bravely battling cancer for 16 years. Born October 2, 1957 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Earl Howard and Rose Marie (Palian) Arnold.
After her 1975 graduation from Claymont High School, Debbie worked for several local manufacturing companies. Upon completion of medical coding classes at Buckeye Career Center, she later was employed by Phillips & Levitt Surgical Associates, and most recently, at Trinity Hospital Twin City as a biller for the medical group. Debbie took pride in the fact that, for many years, she was able to work full-time and not miss any work, all while receiving her chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Despite all the challenges her illness presented, she was always smiling and never complained. Above all else, Debbie’s pride and joy were her two sons and seeing them succeed. She never missed a sporting or academic event, despite her condition. She attended Park Christian Church in Dennison.
On December 23, 1994, Debbie married Steve Allen Pounds who survives her. She is also survived by her sons, Nathan C. (Marcy) Pounds and Cody S. Pounds; grandson, Sean Levengood; sisters, Linda (companion, Lee Hampton) West, Janet Lillo and Nancy (Charles) Marty; mother-in-law, Elsie L. Pounds; brother- and sister-in-law, Perry and Sharon Pounds; several nieces and nephews; and grandpuppies, Max and Bentley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, John L. “J.P.” Pounds, and brother-in-law, James Lillo.
Services, officiated by Pastor Scot Caley, will be held at 11am on Thursday, August 18, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice. Her family wishes to extend special thanks to her favorite nurse, Barb, as well as Dr. James Schmotzer and Dr. Kristi Leindecker.
