David C. Stewart, 91, of Tippecanoe, passed away at his home on Monday, February 9, 2015 with his wife, Verna, and son, Tim, by his side. Born November 13, 1923 in Tippecanoe, he was a son of the late Price L. and Pauline (Akers) Stewart and a lifelong resident of Tippecanoe.
On October 5, 1963, David married the former Verna Belle Sheppard who survives him at their home. He is also survived by children, Natalie Stewart, David P. Stewart, Kimberly (Julian) Stewart-Bridges, and Timothy C. (Shellie) Stewart; grandchildren, Donald, Lacie, Jewelie, Mystie and Candice Heston, Alexis Bridges-Moss, Anna, Connor, Katilyn and Ava Bridges, Clint and Clay Kutcher, and Cierra Doane; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Olivia; and a number of nieces, nephews and other extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David W. Jr., and sisters, Helen and Evelyn.
David was a heavy equipment operator at Ohio River Collieries for many years, as well as at several other area coal mines. He also worked his family farm throughout his life which brought him much joy. He had a passion for collecting guns and reloading his ammunition. He was proud of his ability to shoot 500 plus yards at ground hogs and never miss. He was Methodist by faith.
In keeping with David’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 14, in the Washington Twp. Volunteer Fire Department Hall in Tippecanoe.
