David L. Smith

David Lewis Smith, 73, of Uhrichsville, passed away at Union Hospital in Dover on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 after a sudden illness. Born March 19, 1940 in Tippecanoe, he was a son of the late Lovel and Delma Bell (McCoy) Smith.

Dave is survived by two sons, David J. (companion, Debra Wolfe) Smith of Dennison and James C. (Diana) Smith of Uhrichsville; stepchildren, Iona (Joe) Fausto of Uhrichsville, Joe (Betty) Martin of Uhrichsville and Teresa (Steve) Gruber of New Philadelphia; thirteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dale Smith of New Philadelphia and Willie Smith of Westchester; several nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion, Patricia Hostetler of Uhrichsville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of thirty years, the former Evelyn Garbrandt, who died in May of 1993.

A lifelong resident of the area, Dave was employed by several area coal mines as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, in his spare time, and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will also be missed by his faithful canine companion, Jake.

Services for Dave, officiated by Pastor Michael P. O’Guin, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 16, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside his beloved wife in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to his family in care of the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, 26 Grant St., Dennison, OH 44621-1269, to help defray the cost of his final expenses.
