Rusty was born April 27, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio, a son of the late David and Gloria Jean (Johnson) Grandison.
On June 29, 1968, Rusty married his high school sweetheart, Karla (Griest) Grandison, with whom he spent forty-three years of loving marriage. She survives him at their home. Together they had five children, Michelle (Matt) Weber of Uhrichsville, Karl (Dianna) Grandison of Dennison, Karen Grandison and Russell Grandison of Uhrichsville, and James (Rachel) Grandison of Dennison; and six grandchildren, Emily and Kaitlyn Grandison and Cory and Matthew Tyler Weber, all of Uhrichsville, and Brianna and Aaron Grandison of Dennison. Rusty is also survived by a sister, Anna (Garry) Arnold of Stillwater; a brother, Charles (Cheryl) Grandison of Dennison; and several nieces and nephews, including Lori “Missy” Burdette to whom he was especially close. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Karl and Gertrude Griest, brothers- and sisters-in-law, Harold “Shotgun” and Molly Ueltschy and John “Boody” Griest; and a nephew, Garry David Arnold. Rusty also had a Beagle named Becky Jo whom he loved.
Rusty was a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in 1964. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam era and served his country overseas, stationed in Germany. In June of 2010, he retired after thirty-three years of service at U.S. Chemical and Plastic in Gnadenhutten where he was the Unit Chairman Local 1-450 for U.S. Chemical and Plastic US Steelworkers’ Union for many years. Rusty loved to watch NASCAR and the Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Cavs, and he enjoyed going to Midvale Speedway when his son raced. He loved vacationing in Englewood, Florida every year with his family and had planned on living in Florida in his retirement.
In keeping with Rusty’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation. A private, family graveside service, officated by Chaplain Brian Flood, will be held in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Those wishing to honor Rusty’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Dress-A-Child and the Twin City Christian Service Center Food Pantry.
Rusty’s family wish to extend their gratitude to The Ohio State University Medical Center and its James Cancer Center in Columbus where he was close to all of the nurses and doctors. They also wish to thank Dr. McCombs and the staff of Union Hospital, as well as special thanks to Natalie Flood, his Hospice nurse, to whom he had a come back for everything she said.
