David Edward Jones, 75, of Dennison, passed away at his home on Monday, May 4, 2015. Born March 8, 1940 in Dennison, he was a son of the late William Edward “Eddie” and Mary Rose (Richards) Jones.
After attending Dennison High School, Dave proudly served his country in the U.S. Army at the beginning of the Vietnam War. Upon returning home from the military, Dave began his 40+ year career as a butcher and meat cutter. He was the owner and proprietor, along with his wife, Kathleen, of Dave’s Meats in New Philadelphia and, in most recent years, Dennison until his retirement in 2007. His pride and joy was making his customers happy. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting, as well as boating with his family and flea marketing, and he had attended Roxford United Methodist Church.
On August 10, 1963, Dave married the former Kathleen R. Kozell who survives him at their home. He is also survived by daughters, Karen (David) Frey of Gnadenhutten and Robin (Chris) Heslop of Uhrichsville; grandchildren, Morgan and Jordan Frey and Hunter, Colton and Kayla Heslop; sister, Sarah “Peggy” (Donn) Foutz of Dover; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Jody and Bob DeWalt, Shirley and Fred Nye, and Larry Shilling; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, J.R. Jones, and sister, Josephine “Jo” Shilling.
Services for Dave, officiated by Rev. Henry Mooney, will be held at 2pm on Friday, May 8, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Roxford United Methodist Church Cemetery near Dennison. Visitation will be 1-3pm and 6-8pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Due to Dave’s love of the Tuscarawas County Fair and the 4-H Youth, the family is asking that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Tuscarawas County Ag Society, 259 Tuscarawas Ave., Dover, OH 44622.
