David E. Devore

David E. Devore, 65, of New Philadelphia, Ohio passed away at his home on Thursday, December 15, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Born May 6, 1946 in Dennison, Ohio, he was a son of the late Lloyd Eugene and Laura Belle (Armstrong) Devore.

A highly decorated Army veteran of the Vietnam War, David was stationed in Pleiko during his first tour of duty and in Cuchi during his second tour. He was awarded three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, two Silver Stars with V for valor, and many more awards including the Vietnam Distinguished Service Cross. He also served in Korea. With the exception of his years in the military, David was a lifelong resident of Tuscarawas County. He worked for Albee Homes with his brothers for a number of years, had also worked for Watkins Trucking, and, most recently, had been employed by the Uhrichsville Pizza Hut. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

David is survived by his companion, Jody Edwards and her children; four sisters, Laura Gribble of Maryland, Linda (Nathan) Gee and Bonnie (Gary) Hootman of New Philadelphia, and Jill (Mark) Presutti of Dennison; three brothers, William Devore of Dennison and Henry Devore and Ralph “Ike” (Becky) Devore of Uhrichsville; a sister-in-law, Joann Devore of Dennison; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd “Butch” Devore, and a sister, Joyce Devore. David’s family wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Community Hospice and to his healthcare aides, Kendra and Lori, for their excellent care.

In keeping with David’s wishes, he has been cremated without a public visitation. A memorial service and celebration of his life, officiated by Pastor Mike O’Guin, is planned for Tuesday, December 20, at 11:00 a.m. in Strait Gate Baptist Church at Dennison. He will be interred in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and Community Hospice.
