David T. Clelland

December 15, 1972 — August 9, 2010

David Clelland, 37, of Dennison, O., formerly of Carrollton, O., chose to end his life at his home on Monday, August 9, 2010. Born December 15, 1972 in Canton, O., he was a son of James D. and Jane Clelland of Dennison.

Dave grew up in the Carrollton area and was a graduate of Carrollton High School in the class of 1991. He went on to work for Horizon’s in New Philadelphia, as well as a facility in West Lafayette, were he found that working with individuals with mental disabilities was rewarding work that he enjoyed very much. Most recently, he had been a self-employed subcontractor, working with several area residential construction firms including Premier Flooring and Mast Builders.

An avid reader and devoted follower of the late Hunter S. Thompson, Dave also enjoyed fishing, participating in M.M.A. fighting and, most of all, spending time with his friends and his children. He was Buddhist by faith and spent much time in study of the teachings of the Dalai Lama.

On February 18, 2000, Dave married Angela M. “Angie” (Meanor) Clelland who survives him. He is also survived by his three children, Mark D. Clelland of Carrollton, Morgan M. Wise of Uhrichsville, and Benjamin W. Clelland of the home; a brother, Todd Clelland and his wife, Wendy, of Helen, Ga. and their son, Todd Michael Clelland; mother-in-law, Nancy J. Meanor of Dover; grandmother, Betty Clelland of Fairmont, W. Va.; grandmother-in-law, Dorothy O. Meanor of Dover; his beloved pets, Kizzy and Louie; and many other extended family members including nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, William Meanor, and a great grandfather to whom he was especially close, D. A. Thomas.

Dave’s family will receive callers on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
