Darla Kay Gale, 64, of Scio, passed away at her home on Sunday, October 21, 2012 after many years of declining health. Born April 30, 1948 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Alvin Jurdin Armstrong and Ida Dora (Ohler) Armstrong Brower.
A resident of Scio since the early 60s, Darla was a graduate of Scio High School in the class of 1966. In addition to being a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker, she worked at the former Scio Pottery and, more recently, at Express Packaging for a time. She treasured the time that she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her surviving family includes a son, Brenton (Adrienne) Gale of Kansas City, Missouri; daughters, Melanie (John) Mickels of Naperville, Illinois and Joanna (companion, Jason Smith) Byers of Adena, Ohio; husband, Joseph Gale to whom she was married in 1968; grandchildren, Payton, Nyah, Mason and Christian Gale, Justin and Joseph Mickels, Kyle Gale, Jared McCauley, and Evan Byers; great-grandchildren, Alexander Keener and Brody Risdon; brothers, Stephen Dean (Terrie) Armstrong of Stow, Ohio, Jackie Leroy Armstrong of Shelby, Ohio, Robert Alvin (Linda) Armstrong of Sherrodsville, and Barry Lynn (Diane) Armstrong of Mineral City; sister-in-law, Pinkie Armstrong of Jewett; aunts, Clara Mae McDevitt and Grace Lillian Ohler; many nieces and nephews; her dear friend and longtime caregiver, Glenna Simms; and a host of friends and neighbors including her circle of friends with whom she enjoyed many happy times playing euchre. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, David Allen and Dennis Dane Armstrong.
Services for Darla, officiated by Pastor Ron Heasley, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Roxford Church Cemetery near Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Those wishing to honor Darla’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.
