Daniel Emil Kappler

Daniel Emil Kappler, 81, of Uhrichsville, passed away on April 25, 2025. Born April 20, 1944, in Dennison, Dan was a 1963 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. He proudly served in the United States Army for six years, finishing his military career as a Master Sergeant, with service both at home and abroad. Dan spent 40 years as a lineman with AEP before retiring. An avid fisherman, he was the former owner of Jamie’s Bait Shop in Uhrichsville. He especially loved fishing at Rainy Lake in Canada with family and friends. He was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church where he served as an usher for more than 50 years. He was also active in several local organizations, including the Knights of Columbus Dennison Council 576, Uhrichsville Moose, Uhrichsville Elks, Dennison Eagles, and the American Italian Club. He is survived by his daughter, Amy (Meredith) Volpe of Delaware, Ohio; his son, Jamie (Kathy) Kappler of Canton, Ohio; and his grandchildren, Mel, Adam, Owen, Jak, and Ridley. Dan is also survived by his brothers, Ken, Billy, and John Kappler, all of the Cincinnati area. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Jan (Rectanus) Kappler; his mother, Alice Margaret (Dauterman) Kappler, who passed when he was just 11 days old; his father, Emil Kappler; and the grandparents who raised him, Ann and Albert Dauterman. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Emily (Kappler) Garrison; stepmothers, Helen (Broermann) Kappler and June (Beselaere) Kappler; and his aunt, Ruth (Dauterman) Johnston. In keeping with Dan’s wishes, a private service will be held with only his children and their families in attendance. There will be no public memorial.
