Dale D. Norton, 87, of New Philadelphia, O., passed away on Monday, March 9, 2009 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville, O., following a period of declining health.
Born April 25, 1921 in Washington, Iowa, he was a son of the late Charles Franklin “Frank” and Gertrude Iva (Blickensderfer) Norton.
After serving his country in the U.S. Navy for twenty years, Dale became a resident of Tuscarawas County in 1960 where he then worked for several area businesses including Wade Electrical Appliance Store, Fab Ohio and Quimby’s Bakery in Uhrichsville, and Rich Industries in Midvale.
He was a member of the Midvale V.F.W. and the Roswell Senior Citizens where he loved to play Bingo. His favorite pastime was making motorized model airplanes, and he enjoyed fishing, as well.
On December 24, 1944, Dale married the former Ruth E. Welz with whom he enjoyed over sixty years of marriage until her passing on February 1, 2005. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Donohoe, and two brothers, Harold and Donald Norton.
Dale’s surviving family includes three brothers, Clarence and Charles Norton of Burlington, Iowa, and Melvin Norton of West Valley City, Utah; two sisters, Opal Beanblossom of Washington, Iowa and Mrs. James (Pearl) Moser of Burlington, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Tom Donohoe of Uhrichsville, and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Garrett of Barnhill and Carme Welz of Uhrichsville.
Services for Dale, officiated by Rev. Harry Milligan, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Those wishing to honor Dale’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice.
