Craig W. T. Begley

December 28, 1951 — November 28, 2023

Craig William Thomas Begley, 71, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, slipped peacefully from this mortal life – bathed in the light of his Christmas tree – while in the care of Community Hospice and his loving family, on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at his home, as was his wish. Born December 28, 1951 in Liverpool, England, he was the son of the late William Thomas and Agnes (Newman) Begley.

After his graduation from Ellergreen High School in Liverpool, Craig studied at the University of Liverpool. When his father suffered a heart attack, Craig left university before completing his degree, in order to help support his family. He served Queen and country as a Cadet with the 5th Kings Artillery – his father having served in the same regiment during World War II. Craig was proud to have been able to provide his family with the rich life experience of residing on three different continents. He enjoyed a long career in finance, including as a Director of the International Commodities Exchange, and was instrumental in shaping policy around international oil trades while living in the Sultanate of Oman.

In 1996, Craig relocated to the United States and made his home in Dover, Ohio where his sons grew up and were graduated from Dover High School. In 2011, they moved to their current residence in Uhrichsville. He was a financial advisor with Edward Jones from 2001 until his retirement in September of this year.

Always an engaged member of his community, Craig served on the Board of Directors of Community Family Healthcare in Dover for a number of years and was a former Rotarian. He was a parishioner of the Church of England until moving to the States where he worshipped in the Methodist Church. He was a man of many interests who especially loved caring for his flower gardens.

Craig will be deeply missed by his surviving family which includes his sons, Reed Begley and Carl Begley who had also been his devoted caregivers; sister, Patricia Gerrard; nieces, Anne and Helen; and former spouse, Jane M. (Reed) Begley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Peter Gerrard.

In keeping with his family’s wishes, a private, family graveside service will be held in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery where he will be interred. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions honoring his memory may be made to Golden Treasures Golden Retriever Rescue, Inc., PO Box 434, Bath, OH  44210 and Golden Endings Retriever Rescue, 1043 Elmwood Ave., Columbus, OH  43212 reflecting his love and devotion for his Golden Retrievers.
