Christopher John Day, 36, of Dennison, was called home by our Lord Jesus on Saturday, November 21, 2020, after a brief illness. Born August 16, 1984 in Columbus, Ohio, he was a son of Rebecca Lynn (Sluka) Day, with whom he had resided, and Bradley Crites Longacher. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandmother, Donna Cargnel; uncles, David (Candace) Sluka and Steven (Valerie) Sluka; great-uncles and great-aunts, James (Bonnie) Bassiletti, Paul (Joyce) Sluka, and Cathy (Tom) Habitz; many friends; and a large extended family, including numerous cousins and second cousins.
Chris, whom many knew affectionately as “Smiley”, was a lifelong area resident and 2003 graduate of Claymont High School. He loved his custodial job at the New Philadelphia Fire Department where he had worked for nearly two years. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing video games. Chris will be remembered for his good-natured, sweet, kind and generous nature. He loved the Lord, and as a member of Leesville Faith Community Chapel, he served on several mission trips. Chris was a good son and grandson who loved helping his mom and grandma by whom he will be deeply missed.
Pastor Doug McFadden will officiate a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021 in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison where he will be interred with his grandfather. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, P.O. Box 96105, Washington, DC 20090-6105.
