Charlotte M. Stilgenbauer

Charlotte Mabel Stilgenbauer, 107, a longtime resident of New Dawn Retirement Center in Dover, formerly of New Philadelphia and Uhrichsville, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017. Born May 24, 1910 in Uhrichsville, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Oscar and Lucy Blanche (Romig) Stilgenbauer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Glenn R. Stilgenbauer, and her grandparents, including Mrs. S.A. Romig with whom she was especially close. She is survived by her cousins, Dan and Mary Rasche, of Dublin, Ohio, J. David Rasche of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Marjorie Jackson Rasche of Galveston, Texas, and many dear friends.

Charlotte was a 1928 graduate of Uhrichsville High School before beginning her long secretarial career, first at Goodyear Tire and Goodyear University in Akron, followed by Ohio Associated Telephone, and finally at Superior Clay from which she retired. She was a faithful member of Uhrichsville First Presbyterian Church where she served in numerous capacities, including as the teacher of the Junior High Girls’ Sunday school class, a choir member, and an elder. She was a member of the Tuscarawas Literary Club of New Philadelphia and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She became a Matron of Eastern Star in 1948, belonged to the Tourist Club in Uhrichsville, and was a charter member of the Quest Club in Uhrichsville. Charlotte visited Israel with her church group at the age of 98. She remained active in the community until the age of 99 when she gave up driving and moved to the New Dawn Retirement Center.

Services, officiated by Rev. Mark Unrue, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Uhrichsville First Presbyterian Church.
