Charlotte "Gracie" Cowie

Charlotte “Gracie” Cowie, 85, formerly of Bowerston, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at Hennis Care Centre in Bolivar. Born February 5, 1930 in Helfenstein, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Olive (Reinoehl) Rabuck.

Gracie was a graduate of Hershey High School before moving to Ohio and marrying John Clifford Conner with whom she had two sons, John (Cathy) Conner and Seth (Tara) Conner. John passed away on October 4, 1963. On April 6, 1968, she married John R. Cowie, Jr. with whom she had a daughter, Tracey (Jim Milburn) Barcus. He passed away on November 5, 2001. Gracie is also blessed with 9 grandchildren, Chris, Todd, Doug, Eric, Kelli, Danielle, Andrea, TJ and Taylor; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The last of her family’s generation, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Rabuck, John Weikel and Charlie Mather; sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Lloyd Maurer; and a step-sister, Loretta.

A resident of Bowerston for much of her adult life, Grace had been a member of Bowerston First United Methodist Church and worked at the former Scio Pottery. Grace loved caring for her family and home, and she will be remembered for her wonderful baking.

Services, officiated by Rev. Larry Malterer, will be held at 11am on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Bowerston’s Longview Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice.
