Charles P. “Sonny” Vitagliano, 68, of Bowerston, Ohio, passed away at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio on December 15, 2011 following a sudden illness. Born December 21, 1942 in Paris, Pa., he was a son of the late Charles P. and Teresa (Spain) Victor.
Sonny was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time at home with his family. He leaves behind his wife, the former Norma R. Host, whom he married in 1974; three sons, Brian L. Vitagliano of Bowerston, Scott N. Vitagliano and his wife, Wendy, of Bowerston, and Chip P. Vitagliano and his wife, Jessica, of North Canton; five grandchildren, Brianna, Brandy, Brian Jr., Logan, and Garrett; three sisters, Rosalea Lee, Pat Verelest and her husband, Bill, and Nancy Stackhouse; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Growing up, Sonny attended Weir High School before serving his country in the U.S. Navy. A longtime member of the Teamsters, he retired from Reese Trucking in 2006 and had previously worked for George Hooker Trucking for thirty-four years. When he wasn’t on the road, Sonny loved tinkering with motors and restoring old tractors, farming, and riding motorcycles.
Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19. Those wishing to honor his life by a memorial contribution are encouraged to do so to the charity of their choice. In keeping with Sonny’s wishes, he has given a legacy of life through organ donation.
