Charles Frederick Cummings, 89, of Dennison, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, after a period of declining health. Born May 10, 1932 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Raymond Paul “Cavey” and Mary Katherine (Cottrell) Cummings.
On January 10, 1957, Charlie wed the love of his life, Janice Faye (Wallace) Cummings, and they moved into the home that they have shared until this day. Charlie was an outstanding athlete at Dennison High School and enjoyed attending their annual Alumni Banquets, including this year’s. He proudly served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, before returning home to a long career in the local clay pipe industry, eventually retiring from Associated Grocers. Charlie was a longtime member of Uhrichsville Christian Fellowship, and in his spare time, he loved to golf.
Charlie and Janice were blessed with five children, Jami Cummings Beans, Charles (Deborah) Cummings, Randall (Shawn) Cummings, and Casey (Lexi) Cummings, who survive him, and Kurt Cummings who died May 24, 2021; grandchildren, David, Bryan, Derek, Danielle, Kassidy, Jordan, Janelle, Caleb, Jennifer, Christopher, Quinton, Cade, and Camry; and many great-grandchildren. Charlie is also survived by his brother, Nick (Terrianne) Cummings, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Nathan “Nate” Cummings; daughter-in-law, Jody Cummings; sisters, Florence O’Donnell and Mildred “Sissie” Terakedis; and brothers, Phillip and Bill Cummings.
Services, officiated by Pastor Tom Klaserner, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 5, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery with a military committal. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
