Cecil A. Brown

Cecil A. Brown, 88, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away at the home of his daughter on Tuesday, August 19, 2008. Born July 17, 1920 in Rush Run, O., he was a son of the late James and Maggie (Ogden) Brown.

On August 26, 1942, he married the former Emilena G. Barcus with whom he enjoyed more than fifty-five years of marriage until her passing on March 5, 1998. They had three children, Richard Brown of Uhrichsville, Cecelia Krocker of New Philadelphia and Amos “Skip” Brown who died in 2004.

They were also blessed with six grandchildren, Michelle Krocker, David Krocker, Randy Brown, Troy Poole, Andy Brown and Brittany Brown, and eight great grandchildren.

Cecil’s other surviving family includes his daughter-in-law, Sharon Brown, of Uhrichsville; a sister, Pearl Barcus of Rayland, O.; dear sisters- and brothers-in-law, Bonnie Steiner, Sandra Barcus, Ray Garber and Marcy Barcus of Uhrichsville, and James Barcus and his wife, Vickie, of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Tony Barcus and Tracy Rainey who were like grandchildren to him.

He will also be sadly missed by his special caregivers, Aunt Sandy, Aunt Bonnie, Maggie and Don, Kevin and Lori, Peggy, and his “Hospice Angels”.

In addition to his parents, wife and son, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Dave Krocker; daughter-in-law, Thelma Brown; five brothers; four sisters; and a nephew who was as close as a grandson, Todd Barcus.

Cecil was a decorated Army veteran of World War II, having earned four bronze stars while serving in North Africa and Italy. A welder by trade, he was employed by Ruger Equipment for thirty-seven years until his retirement in 1986. He was an avid fisherman, as well as a member of the American Legion in Hopedale and a Golden member of the Uhrichsville Eagles.

Services for Cecil, officiated by Rev. Glen Shedlock, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow beside his wife in Upper Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Tappan Lake with a military committal service at the graveside.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21. Those wishing to honor Cecil’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Hospice of Tuscarawas County.
