Cary Leonard Snow, 65, of Dennison, O., formerly of Holmes Co., passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Aultman Hospital in Canton, O., following a period of declining health.
Born in Millersburg, O. on July 15, 1943, he was a son of the late Freda (Atkinson) Snow-Baker, along with a twin sister, Faye Snow Miller. Cary had a large number of half siblings, as well.
Cary had been a resident of the West Homes Agency in Dennison since 1991, having previously resided at the Colonial Manor for twelve years. He had also lived at the Rohrig Nursing Home in Uhrichsville for fourteen years after attending the Columbus State School from 1952 to 1965.
Cary attended the Starlight Enterprises workshop for a number of years until his failing health prevented him. He also enjoyed attending dance classes at Starlight. In 1994 and 1995, Cary attended adult education classes at Buckeye Joint Vocational School and received a participation certificate in the spring of 1995.
He was a very patriotic man who loved red, white and blue. He loved to sing and was particularly fond of the favorite old hymns, The Old Rugged Cross and Amazing Grace. He was a member of New Philadelphia First Baptist Church’s Good Shepherd Ministry.
Cary will be sadly missed by his housemates at the West Family Home, Joey Watson, David Simmons and Rob Coventry; his longtime caregiver and friend, Joe Nazionale of Dennison; and Lorrie Westmill and the staff of the West Homes Agency.
In addition to his mother, Cary was preceded in death by his stepfather, Opal Edward Baker, and loving caregiver and friend, Ann West.
Private visitation and services will be held with Pastor David Millard officiating. Those wishing to honor Cary’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so the New Philadelphia First Baptist Church’s Good Shepherd Ministry, 878 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
It is hoped that Cary’s cremated remains can be buried with his mother or another family member. However, because of his many years in various institutions, his caregivers have been unable to locate his family. Any information about Cary’s family would be greatly appreciated by the staff of the West Homes Agency. They may be reached at (740) 922-3214.
